SHAW, George Bernard (1856-1950). Playwright. Autograph Note Signed (initials) on a printed postcard to the 'Reverend the Father Superior of the Abbey of Christ the King' in New Barnet; Ayot St Lawrence, 22 May 1934. The printed message explains that he does not, as a rule, lecture in public and never opens exhibitions or bazaars (that phrase underlined, with the message 'being too old for such games' appended in his hand), Shaw expresses incredulity at the exhibition the Father Superior proposes to mount, at his inability to secure the services of an Archbishop to open the exhibition and even at the existence of Hadley Hall (the address of the Abbey) itself. '... I never heard of you. Where did you get all the stuff you promise to exhibit? Is it a loan collection? ...'The card is somewhat creased. [No: 20105]
