MURCHISON, Sir Roderick Impey (1792-1871). Scottish geologist.
Autograph Letter Signed to an unnamed correspondent, 3 pages 8vo, Museum of Practical Geology (blind stamp), 26 February 1864. With an envelope front to Edward Wood, perhaps the recipient. Promising to visit a palaeontological collection in Birmingham ('our Palaeontologist her does not want of them'), and adding a postscript about the Prix Cuvier.
'... De Verneuil was charmed when the French Institut conferred on me their great "Cuvier Prize" Medal. It is a trienniel affair & has never before been given to a Geologist'; Agassiz, Owen & others having received it for their distinction in other branches of Natural History Science.'
