MILLAIS, Sir John Everett (1829-1896). Painter. Autograph Letter Signed to [Sir Henry] Thompson (1820-1904, surgeon and polymath), 1 page 8vo, on embossed writing-paper of 2 Palace Gate, Kensington, 26 July 1882. Informing Thompson that his portrait will be delivered to his house when the Royal Academy [show] has closed. The portrait is now in the Tate Britain to whom it was bequeathed by Thompson. Thompson was an expert in removing gall stones and had treated many eminent people, including Napoleon. In addition, he wrote novels, painted, and was a student of astronomy. [No: 26073]
