ISLE OF MAN
Eighteenth Century copy of a famous letter from the Earl of Derby to General Ireton, 4 pages folio, the original dated 12 July 1649. An explanation accompanies the copy, which transcribes Derby's reply to Ireton when asked to surrender the Isle of Man. Eight copies of the original letter were made and signed by the Earl and distributed to the Royalist Party.
